First hot-dip galvanized R30 project in Germany nearing completion

16.03.2020 – Hamburg. Building noise still dominates the activity at the Hamburg Cruise Centre Baakenhöft. For now, because cruise ships are set to be handled here on Kirchenpauerkai, in the eastern HafenCity, very soon. The special feature of the single-storey terminal currently under construction: for the first time in Germany, a building with R30 fire protection is being realised through hot-dip galvanising. Schienbein Industrielle Dach- und Fassadentechnik GmbH, the general contractor for the project, ventured into a first for Germany in excellent collaboration with the project stakeholders* – ZINQ handled the hot-dip galvanising according to DIN EN ISO 1461.

Excellent: ZINQ officially stands for innovative climate protection

This immense positive footprint already includes the physically unavoidable energy consumption in the production of the surfaces, which emits approximately 20,000 tonnes of CO2. Furthermore, ZINQ surfaces, like trees, are efficient CO2 sinks: every year, ZINQ surfaces bind over 6,000 tonnes of CO2 through the formation of carbonated top layers.
