-43% CO2 emissions

ecoZINQ is setting new standards for the carbon footprint

ZINQ surfaces provide reliable and long-lasting protection against corrosion for steel. ecoZINQ also protects the environment: ecoZINQ generates 43 % less CO₂ emissions than conventional hot-dip galvanised surfaces that comply with the DIN EN ISO 1461 standard. This means that ecoZINQ currently has the lowest carbon footprint in the industry – and this can be verifiably demonstrated. The CO₂ footprint and the positive environmental impacts of ecoZINQ have been independently verified by a third party and are specifically documented in an Environmental Product Declaration in accordance with EN 15804. This makes ecoZINQ the only surface treatment with a third-party validated CO₂ footprint (PCF). As a result, every tonne of steel protected against corrosion by ecoZINQ saves 185 kg of CO₂ compared with high-quality coating systems.

In doing so, ecoZINQ combines an unmatched carbon footprint with the familiar quality of the duroZINQ industry standard. Low-carbon finishes such as duroZINQ already significantly reduce the product-related footprint compared to the industry standard – and they do so across the entire product life cycle. The ecoZINQ finish clearly surpasses even this performance. This is because for ecoZINQ we use exclusively low-carbon primary zinc produced using renewable energies and an increasing amount of low-carbon recycled zinc of primary quality – further reducing the carbon product footprint of ecoZINQ and outperforming all other batch galvanising finishes in accordance with DIN EN ISO 1461.

This offers ecoZINQ the highest ecological quality without compromising on product quality: Like all ZINQ hot-dip galvanised surfaces, ecoZINQ is Cradle to Cradle Certified® and can be fully recycled as a material-healthy product in closed material cycles. The circular quality is documented in a Product Circularity Data Sheet (PCDS) and all environmental impacts throughout the product's entire lifecycle are recorded.

The specific CO₂ savings achieved by choosing ecoZINQ as a durable surface are credited to ZINQ customers as carbon credits on their invoices. Carbon credits therefore already form the basis for rebates today – in the event that CO₂ prices are also used in future to calculate direct and indirect environmental costs over the entire lifecycle of the products.

ecoZINQ is thus tailor-made for eco-conscious customers who want to sustainably reduce the carbon footprint of their hot-dip galvanised steel products. And the climate equation adds up too: the more ecoZINQ, the higher the CO₂ savings!
