Engaged in IN4climate.NRW

As a unique platform nationwide where industry, science, and politics collaborate, IN4climate.NRW offers a space for developing innovative strategies for climate-neutral industry. The initiative aims to devise strategies on how industry in North Rhine-Westphalia can maintain its high competitiveness, generate additional growth, and simultaneously contribute to achieving the Paris Climate Protection goals.

Various companies and associations from the steel and metals, chemicals, cement, glass, paper, and building materials sectors, as well as research institutions, are participating in the initiative. An innovation team is jointly developing ideas and measures for climate-neutral industry with a working group. The process is accompanied by a Strategy Board, which operates at board and ministerial level. The SCI4climate.NRW competence centre is scientifically accompanying the process and examining the development and design possibilities of a climate-neutral basic materials industry.

In detail, the goals and tasks of IN4climate.NRW are:

• Identify central research needs, including identifying research and innovation fields for climate-neutral industrial production
• Developing and initiating research projects
• Develop scientific and technical strategies to maintain the future viability of the industrial location.
• Conduct technology studies, taking into account the requisite regulatory and political frameworks.
• Identify possible consistent production-specific development steps
• Identify infrastructure needs
• Development of innovation roadmaps for the implementation of breakthrough innovations
• To develop and discuss financing instruments
• Facilitate the economical production of climate-friendly products.

How do we get involved there?

Within IN4climate.NRW, ZINQ will participate in the working groups on hydrogen, industrial process heat, circular economy, authorisation procedures, and political frameworks. By supporting the think tank, ZINQ aims to help illustrate the concrete path towards climate-neutral industry. To this end, we are networking with knowledge holders on specialist topics such as decarbonisation through hydrogen or the circular economy, and injecting impulses from the practical experience of the medium-sized process heat industry.
