ArcelorMittal, Welser Profile and the ZINQ Group are pooling their expertise to strengthen dialogue on the circular economy along the steel value chain. With STEEL.DAY, the three companies are bringing together representatives from industry, the construction sector, science and politics to discuss concrete ways to achieve greater circularity in construction and industry.

A functioning circular economy requires the collaboration of all stakeholders – from material production and product development through to application and recycling. This is precisely the approach that STEEL.DAY embraces. The focus is on issues relating to circular construction, circular design, material quality, product passports and economically viable business models for the circular economy.

„Circular economy is becoming a decisive success factor for the manufacturing and construction industries. To keep resources circulating in the long term, we need practical solutions and intensive dialogue along the value chain, says Lars Baumgürtel, Managing Partner of the ZINQ Group.

Practical examples at STEEL.DAY demonstrate that circular solutions are already feasible today – from dismantlable structures and digital material cadasters to new procurement approaches for circular products. At the same time, discussions will focus on what regulatory frameworks are needed for the circular economy to be implemented more widely in construction and industry.

„The use of the right material in the right place can already help to achieve ambitious sustainability goals today. This requires a holistic view of the life cycle of buildings,“ emphasises Prof. Dr. Olivier Vassart, CEO of ArcelorMittal Steligence®.

Alongside the construction sector, attention is also turning to product development. The focus is on how products can be designed for the circular economy right from the start and what conditions are necessary for circular solutions to find widespread application.

„The crucial question is no longer whether circular products are possible, but how they can be successfully implemented on an economic scale,“ says Thomas Welser, Member of the Group Management Board & CEO of Welser Profile.

With STEEL.DAY, ArcelorMittal, Welser Profile and the ZINQ Group aim to provide impetus for greater circularity and promote dialogue on concrete solutions.
