Project

Steel bridge components receive high-performance and sustainable corrosion protection with duroZINQ.

A durable, low-maintenance, mobile, and recyclable solution is sought for the construction of a temporary bridge over the A57, one of NRW's busiest motorways. Consequently, 100 tonnes of steel at the Gelsenkirchen site will receive the Cradle to Cradle certified duroZINQ surface. Since June 2021, the bridge has been installed between the Meerbusch junction and Krefeld-Oppum for cyclists and pedestrians and is expected to be replaced by a new bridge in April 2022. The temporary bridge will then be available for further projects on a rental basis.

Realisation

A total of 13 deliveries of various steel components for the construction of individual segments of the temporary bridge arrived at ZINQ. The longest element measured almost 12.5 metres. Many components had to be dipped twice into the Gelsenkirchen galvanising bath. In advance, those involved had already agreed on their galvanising-compatible design, particularly regarding the necessary openings in the individual parts. According to customer specifications, ZINQ carried out and documented magnetic particle inspections to rule out surface cracks. The finished materials were then transported by haulage company to Stahlbau Trepels, where they were pre-assembled into segments ranging from 3 to 12 metres in length, then transported to the construction site by heavy goods transport, and finally, the temporary bridge was completed there.
