timing is a multi-faceted company that develops, constructs and remodels international freight centres, among other things—sometimes several centres simultaneously. As a rule, the company produces the necessary components itself and then delivers them to ZINQ in Castrop-Rauxel. Sometimes there are even large quantities of almost identical components at the same time. These components are then collected again at different times and used somewhere in Germany or elsewhere in Europe. The challenge was to ensure information networking along the entire process chain in order to actually provide the hot-dip galvanised components as needed and to enable clear identification at all times.
Realisation
Every element delivered by timing was fitted with a heat-resistant, coated and freely inscribable component marker, the ZINQ Tag. The tags are securely wired to the component and, in addition to the barcode, feature an additional position number in plain text, which also indicates the destination construction site. Should the barcode on the special metal tag ever be damaged, all relevant information can easily be derived in this way. What is stored via code on the tags is entirely up to the timing customer. In fact, ZINQ receives detailed component data even before production in order to incorporate this into its production process. In addition, the components have another metal plate with the relevant position of the element. This backup procedure ensures that there are no misunderstandings regarding component allocation and that, overall, every component can be clearly identified and traced before, during and after surface finishing. Smooth processes between the cooperation partners have thus become standard practice thanks to the high-tech ceramic barcode.
