Under the name „The Flag Wiesbaden“, the former „Duplex Hochhaus“ on Dürerplatz – known for decades as an office block – is being revitalised and refurbished for a new lease of life. Rather than being demolished and rebuilt, the existing structure is being preserved and converted – a sustainable approach in its own right. The building is being reimagined as a modern apartment block with 65 accessible flats for older people. In addition to an extra storey, the building will feature a green façade and new balconies with planters. The challenging steelwork was carried out by Hahner Technik GmbH & Co. KG from Fulda: 643 columns comprising a total of 96.5 tonnes of steel were installed to reinforce the existing structural shell, along with 64 balcony support structures weighing a further 242 tonnes. In addition, 12 tonnes of substructure for the windows and façade were installed. ecoZINQ was used to provide long-term corrosion protection – a circular surface treatment that, in addition to offering maximum durability, also enables a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions: 43 % fewer emissions compared with conventional hot-dip galvanising and a saving of 185 kg of CO₂ per tonne of steel compared with high-quality coating systems. Another key element of the collaboration was the depotmobil service from the ZINQ 360 programme, which ensured efficient and resource-saving logistics.
