duroZINQ surface finishing of figures and a substructure which are part of an art object in the middle of a new roundabout in Horrem (Dormagen, North Rhine-Westphalia). The sculpture is considered a symbol of cohesion and togetherness. The little figures were intended to stand out from the base (approx. 3.5 m high). This was made from rusting Corten steel sheet, while the figures (approx. 1.9 m tall) were made from galvanised and powder-coated forged solid steel.

Realisation

Large frames made of thick-walled square tubing measuring 100 x 100 x 5 mm were assembled to form the substructure for the base of the pyramid and clad with large-format Corten steel sheets, some of which were laser-cut with the lettering of the title „Horrem gemeinsam besser“. The aim was to maintain a gap size of 20 mm between the sheets as precisely as possible for all 14 panels. Furthermore, it was necessary to build an individual frame for each sheet in order to connect them to the tubular structure without visible screw fittings. Towards the end of the planning and construction period of approximately 6 months, the figures were placed onto the substructure for alignment. Both the substructure for the base of the pyramid and the figures were hot-dip galvanised with duroZINQ, with the figures receiving an additional powder coating. At an appointment in early May 2020, the deed of donation and the sculpture were handed over to the city.
