On the Belgian-Dutch border, with a panoramic view of the border region, stands an approximately 22-metre-high observation tower. The tower symbolises the bond between Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and the Waasland.

This new viewpoint refers to the history that has so strongly shaped this region, among other things to the Spanish national borders during the Eighty Years' War in the 16th and 17th centuries, when our country's borders were lined with towers.

The steel construction company Lumet from Verrebroek was an important link in this project. „The round structure and the height of the tower posed an exciting challenge,“ recalls managing director Geert Van den Berghe. „All the round parts had to be precisely rolled and shaped. For the circular tubes and the spiral staircase structure, we first developed a special mould. This enabled us to consistently align every segment of the tower correctly. When joining the profiles together, you must not forget that the tower has to be able to be galvanised and transported.".

We therefore divided it into six segments so that it could fit into the galvanising bath and be transported. It was also important that the tower was adequately anchored in the ground to prevent it from leaning over time. The selection of suitable stairs and a durable type of wood for the external cladding required the necessary care.“

S235 steel was used for the execution, totalling about 15 tonnes.
