Project
For the construction of a new branch for a major discount supermarket, the Dutch company Imetaal Staalbouw B. V. is seeking maximum corrosion protection for a steel girder measuring 25.6 metres in length and weighing 3 tonnes. Those responsible have opted for duroZINQ hot-dip galvanising at the ZINQ site in Gelsenkirchen. Due to the elimination of maintenance measures during the use of the hot-dip galvanised steel, duroZINQ is one of the most ecologically and economically sensible processes in surface technology. With bath dimensions of 17.20 m x 1.80 m x 3.20 m, the facility in Gelsenkirchen is specialised in extra-long and large structures. But over 25 metres in a single component? – an uncommon challenge. The double-dipping method used requires skilled, precision handling by the ZINQ specialists.
Realisation
At ZINQ in Gelsenkirchen, the pre-treatment processes had to be carried out twice due to the length of the components. Full galvanising was also only feasible through double dipping. This required the beam to be laboriously rotated completely around its own axis once, unlike standard overlength dips, where the side opposite the already galvanised side can simply be dipped again. The corrosion-protected beam arrived on schedule at the construction site of the discount supermarket branch in the Dutch town of Goor just a few hours later.
